Dualling Swans

As a Highland based artist, John is continually inspired but the terrain and views around him. Living just north of Inverness and a keen sailor, John looks for unusual and dramatic views of both the landscape and the yacht presentations.

John uses texture and colour to enhance the already dramatic dramatic landscapes and seascapes in his oil paintings. His playfull use of colour off sets the often severe lighting and weather conditions captured in his work. Working with such considerations to his scenes, John is able to freely layer paint using a variety of tools and techniques. Working with such considerations and connection to his subjects, John is able to capture the power of wind and wave, light and dark, culminating in an end piece with both speculative abstraction and realism.

His love for the locations he paints is apparent through his deliberate and evocative strokes.
