Equipment is the backbone of good gardening. Without the proper gloves, boots, seeds and tools, life might be quite different in the garden.

Thats where we come in.
At Scottish Living we have been gardening for years, so we know and understand your pain. How is it that when you start a job you are always something short? You either don’t have the right fork or you should have used the narrow spade but, yep, it’s in the shed – here we go again, another walk up the garden to get it. On your way back you’ll see something else that needs done and before you know it, you’re sidetracked again. Haha. Ok, this is an age thing, but I bet you’ve all done it!

In our Scottish Living Equipment section we have a great selection of items for you to choose from. Some will be useful like GLOVES to get the job done and these can be found in the TOOLS pages, some will be great to put plants in, so we have created POTS & PLANTERS, some can add colour with SEEDS and ORNAMENTS and some will just be good to look at. Finally one main essential will be a good pair of BOOTS.

Why should every gardener invest in a good trowel?

Because cheap one’s BEND that’s why!
If one thing we have learned over the years is that a good trowel will last for years and become your friend. Invest as much as you can afford in this one essential tool for gardening. We’re not saying this one is the best, but it is up there, and we would like to recommend it.

Fork Off!

Maybe we’ll be forced into changing this heading eventually but we couldn’t resist it. There’s no better tool for digging the garden with, than a good old fork. This Kent & Stowe Classic is available in the Scottish Living Shop.

A fine pair of boots will help get the job done and keep your feet clean!

We used to wear normal walking boots in the garden or a stout pair of shoes but as soon as it rains (and it does a lot in Scotland) the bloody things are clogged up and caked in mud. Then you get a shout for a cup of tea or a juice and getting them off to go indoors is a total pain in the neck. A much easier solution is a good pair of wellies, just hose them down, kick them off and you’re done?
